As a student, you have the opportunity to apply for a dispensation from the rules during your study programme if special conditions occur, e.g. if you need an extra attempt to take an exam or if you need to retake a semester.

If you are unable to do an exam due to illness, you must inform the administration as soon as possible. The illness must be documented with a medical certificate which Business Academy Aarhus must have received no later than 6 days following the exam attempt.

If you do not inform Business Academy Aarhus in time, or if we don’t receive your medical certificate in time, it will count it as one exam attempt.

If you become ill during your programme, it's a good idea to notify your fellow students and your team leader/lecturers. Be aware that some subjects have compulsory attendance.

If your illness lasts longer than two weeks, Business Academy Aarhus will consider your illness to be long-term. If your illness significantly affects your ability to study, you must inform Business Academy Aarhus.

If you need to be on sick leave from your programme, you must send a doctor's note to the Administrative Coordinator at your programme.

If you need to discuss your situation and possibilities, you are always welcome to contact the student counsellors.

If you are going on maternity/paternity leave while you are a student, you must notify your programme of the period of leave. You do this by sending an email to the Administrative Coordinator at your programme.

Your maternity/paternity leave period depends on the due date. However, it can only be a maximum of 52 weeks. If you are in doubt as to how you can organise your maternity/paternity leave, you are very welcome to contact the student counsellors who will guide you through your options.

It is important to distinguish between pregnancy and maternity leave. If you experience discomfort or illness that prevents you from being an active student whilst you are pregnant, you can apply for sick leave. See more under illness on this page.

If you are considering taking sabbatical leave, it's a good idea to contact the student counsellors. Sabbatical leave might be a good solution – or it may not be the right solution.

You must have passed the 1st year of your studies on your Academy Profession Degree or Bachelor's degree before you can apply for sabbatical leave. If you are doing a top-up, you must have passed the 1st semester before you can apply for sabbatical leave. A dispensation from this can be granted if there are exceptional circumstances. You can apply for sabbatical leave by sending an email to the Administrative Coordinator at your programme. In the email you must state a reason for your wish to take sabbatical leave and a time period for the leave. Your sabbatical leave must always end at a time that allows you to resume relevant study activities on your programme. You do not, however, have the right to complete your programme according to the original curriculum if the programme curriculum has changed during your sabbatical leave.

You must be aware that when you are on sabbatical leave, you cannot attend classes, access Canvas or take any exams.

Please note that you cannot get SU while you are on sabbatical leave.

If you have a documented physical or mental disability (e.g. dyslexia, ADHD etc.), you can apply for special exam conditions if you consider that you need these to be on an equal footing with your peers in an exam situation.

For example, you can apply for extra time for an exam or permission to use special aids and assistance.

In order to be allowed to participate in an exam with special conditions, it is a prerequisite that you can document your needs (medical documentation).

You must apply no later than 4 weeks before the exam.

Application deadlines will be waived in cases of sudden health problems.

If you wish to withdraw from your education, please fill out a withdrawal form via the link below.

You are very welcome to discuss your situation with the student counsellors before you withdraw from your programme.

When you withdraw, you must be aware that any exam registrations will be automatically cancelled. You cannot withdraw with retroactive effect, the earliest will therefore be the date you send your request.

The SU office will automatically be told of your withdrawal.

You can apply for leave from your programme instead of withdrawing if you've passed the first year of your studies (for a top-up, you need to have passed the first semester/have 30 ECTS).  If you are considering this option, you can find more information on this page.
