Berlin: Oxygenic photosynthesis

Date tbd

The summer academy 'Oxygenic photosynthesis' is a 2-week course that can substitute an elective course in your study programme. The purpose of this elective course is to provide basic understanding of the inner architecture of cyanobacterial and plant cells.

You will obtain knowledge about:

  • Subcellular plant compartments, organelles, molecular composition, structure and function of thylakoid membranes.
  • Primary (light-induced) and secondary processes of photosynthesis.
  • Testing the molecular fitness of intact leaves and cyanobacterial cells by time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy.
  • Isolation and purification of membrane-integrated and – associated (oligomeric) protein complexes from plastids and thylakoid membranes.
  • Structural and functional characterisation using biochemical, biophysical (spectroscopic / spectrometric), microscopic and amperometric methods.

Lectures will be based on theory and practical laboratory work.

The entire course will be taught in English by lecturers and professors from BHT and Business Academy Aarhus.

There will be an exam at the end of the summer school, which is weighted 5 ECTS credits.

Where and when

The summer academy is offered in collaboration with our German partner, BHT Berlin, in Berlin and will be held from tba.

Who can join?

The summer academy is ideal for students who want to incorporate a different academic or cultural experience in their educational profile. It is held with students from BHT.

Find your programme and see if you can get a credit transfer for participating in this summer academy.

Credit transfer (pdf)

If you can get a credit transfer – that is, if the summer academy can partly or fully substitute a subject in your programme – your participation in the summer academy is free.

Practical information

There is no tuition fee for the course. You must pay all other expenses in connection with the summer academy in Berlin.

If you are offered a place in this summer academy, a non-refundable registration fee (2,000 DKK) must be paid in approximately mid-April to ensure your registration. This money will go towards your accommodation and meals in Berlin, as well as some of the combined social activities.
Students must therefore NOT book their own accommodation.
We will ask for the rest of the payment a little later in the process.
Students will be able to apply for Erasmus funding.
