Special exam conditions

The purpose of special examination conditions is to ensure that you are placed on an equal footing with other students in the exam situation, but without changing the academic level. An individual assessment will always be made based on your application and the documentation you have submitted.

For example, it is possible to apply for:

• Extra time for written exams
• Extra time for oral exams – examination time
• Extra time for oral exams – preparation time
• Listening to exam texts with headphones
• Exemption from spelling and formulation skills in written assignments and exams
• Especially for dyslexics: Use of granted digital aids and assistance

Examinations where no special examination conditions are usually granted:

• Oral exams, unless the student has very special language and speech difficulties or for example, stuttering
• Project exam where there is one week or more for the preparation of the written project or assignment

There may also be special conditions for the exams in the programme you are attending. For example, for safety reasons, enclosures or headphones cannot be provided for exams in a laboratory.

To be granted special exam conditions, you must be able to document your needs. This means that you must submit documentation in the form of, for example, a dyslexia certificate or a doctor's certificate or other documentation from a doctor or specialist documenting your challenges in relation to an exam situation.

If you have already applied for SPS for the same functional impairment for which you are now applying for special exam conditions, you do not need to submit the documentation again.

In your application, it is a good idea to describe how your challenges affect you in an exam situation, so that we have the best basis on which to process your application.

You must apply for special exam conditions no later than 4 weeks before the exam so that we have time to process your application. If you apply later than 4 weeks before the exam, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to process your application for special exam conditions in time for your exam.

If your disability is permanent, you only need to apply for special exam conditions once. We will then note your special exam conditions for all relevant exams in connection with your degree programme.

Please note that you must apply for special exam conditions again if you start a new programme.

You must apply online via SDBF, where you must log in with mitID. You can select language (English) at the top of the form.

Whether or not you are granted special examination conditions will always depend on a specific and individual assessment of whether the special examination conditions applied for are necessary to put you on an equal footing with other students.

Documentation of your needs is a prerequisite for us to be able to grant special exam conditions, but documentation is not in itself a guarantee that your application for special exam conditions will be approved.

The application process takes place via SDBF, and you will receive an answer in your digital mailbox.

Please note that all communication with you in connection with your application takes place via the email address you have connected to your mitID.

In most cases, you will receive a decision within 3 weeks. However, there may be longer processing times in connection with holidays.

We will send the decision on your application for special examination conditions to your digital mailbox.
